PENGARUH PENGGUNAAN BAHAN KAPUR BARUS SEBAGAI ADITIF ALTERNATIF DALAM BAHAN BAKAR BENSIN TERHADAP KINERJA MOTOR TOYOTA KIJANG 5K

Abstract


In the indonesian people's society, there is a habit to add camphor into their vehicle' fuel tank, mixed with gasoline fuel, according to the driver's experience, it gives an improvement to engine performance, but this is only a popular belief without any scientific explanation proving it.

The study includes measurement on the a test bend of toyota kujang 5k engine, by using three kinds of fuel, which were ordinary premium gasoline, gasoline that was mixed with 5 g/L camphor as an alternative, and premium gasoline that was mixed with 10 g/L camphor.

The test result shows that using 5 g/L camphor gives an improvement about 3,22% for engine torque, 3,21 % for engine power, and 0,48 % for brake specific fuel comsumption. The 10 g/L camphor will decrease the engine torque by about 3,68 % and 3,7 % for the engine power, for the brake specific fuel consumption this will increase by about 7,64 %.

The final result was that, using camphor as an additive alternative for gasoline fuel doesn't give any remarkable improvement (below 5 %) for engine permformance. So there is no need to use camphor as an additive alternative gasoline fuel.
